A Message From The Publisher...

Hi Fellow Parents!

Welcome back to the newsletter. It's been busy lately, this time of year finds a lot of children being pulled out of public schools. So if you know any parents who are new to homeschooling, lend a hand, and ease their anxiety!

Plus, guess who's birthday is this week? Yup, Doctor Seuss! Almost all reading programs, including things like the Writing Road To Reading use those books are early readers. So to honor the doctor, we've included a link to the official Seussville. That site also happens to have a collection of excellent reading games for your child to play. It's certainly worth a visit.

Another great resource I found was Baseball Math. What's really great about this online math game is that you can play it two player. This means you can play with your child, they can play with a friend, or a sibling (carefully ;-) That makes it all the more fun, and anything that makes learning more fun = GOOD.

Also this week honors the Battle of The Alamo. So there are some great historic sites and lesson plans.

PLUS Don't Miss This Really Great Deal!

Be sure to check out Free Homeschool FunKits. These are designed to perk up your teaching. You can use them to add a little fun or spice to your curriculum, or even as a treat.

Thanks so much, and as always, enjoy your time with your kids. Time is fleeting and kids grow *FAST*

Sincerely,

Bonnie Han,
Publisher.

Mood Necklace - Warm Blooded Calorie Tester FunKit - FREE!
This is the perfect way for your child to truly understand that THEY produce heat! We looked long and hard for these. We've seen lots of mood rings, but we wanted something that you could use to see heat differences in different parts of your body (other than your finger).  Most people have heard of calories, and they count them in food, but now your child can understand how a calorie is actually a measure of your body producing heat and energy! Includes lesson plans to teach your child about warm and cold bloodedness, our bodies ability to produce energy and heat as well as concepts of Calories, what a calorie actually means and lots more as well as one Warm Blooded Calorie Tester Mood Necklace! This FunKit is FREE, just pay shipping and handling.

DinoFun Measuring Games - FREE!
This is a fabulous toy to convert learning into fun. This is not just a measuring tape, it's THEIR measuring tape! It's your child's very own. Plus, you won't believe the learning opportunities it brings up. Be sure to have your child carry it with them all the time! Now my kids run around all the time measuring, adding  measurements, subtracting to see if things can fit and more. Now I just have to figure out a way to stop them! There are lots of games and activities to teach everything from measuring (of course), to converting metric measurements, diameters or circles, circumference and more. Concepts even a 5 year old can get with their handy, dandy DinoFun Measuring Tape.  We've included lots and lots of games and learning opportunities with lesson plans and resources along with your child's very own DinoFun Measuring Tape This FunKit is FREE, just pay shipping and handling.

Domino Math Games FunKit - FREE!
Shhhh. Don't mention the math part to your kids, we can make that our secret. Just tell them it's a Domino FUNKit :-)  This is another great learning opportunity game to teach math. Yes you can teach addition and subtraction, but did you know it's also a perfect tool to teach probability, the properties of  mathematical sets, distribution, and more! So from age 3 to 63, there's lots to learn. Oh, did we mention that it's a fun game too! Plus there are about 30 or more domino games you might not have known about. How about Five Up, Concentration, Tiddly-Wink, The Passing Game, Eleven Point Black Tile, and the ever so popular Chicken Foot! Great for young one's pattern recognition, all the way up to older ones understanding sets and probability. We've included other game ideas  and learning opportunities along with lesson plans and resources and your child's very own Domino Math Set, oh, I meant Domino FUN Set! This FunKit is FREE, just pay shipping and handling.

Keep Track Of All Your Homeschool Records The Easy Way!

This kit makes keeping your homeschool records easy. Some states don't require  anything, others require more than any human should need to keep! And there is everything in between. But there are some basic records that you should keep anyway.

No matter what your needs, you are covered with this Record Keeping System. Each kit is customer tailored to your state's needs.

The Ultimate Portfolio
Homeschool Keepsake System

What better gift for your child and yourself to create a scrapbook and record of your child's learning. We are so busy as it is, and children  grow so fast, you owe it to yourself and your child! There are some more practical reasons as well...

Many states require a portfolio, or some sort of records of what you taught. Some states even require your portfolio be reviewed. Check with your particular state's requirements. But whatever the need, this is the perfect way to create a portfolio and wonderful keepsake of your time together with your child!

Dolch Word List Flash Cards
The Dolch words are the 220 most frequently found words.  Students who learn these words have a good base for beginning reading.  Many of these words cannot be sounded out because  they do not follow decoding rules.  These words must be learned as sight words. These flash cards will help you work with your child on these words.

Special Midweek Mailing

Home Schooling
Another Wonderful Day!

It used to be that every morning was filled with getting lunches ready, screaming for kids to get dressed, get stuff ready for school...

Did you eat your breakfast...
Hope you at least got one of the food groups covered...
Do you have socks and underwear on?
Oh, I forgot you’re not 2 anymore...

Well, you can imagine the chaos with four kids. It wasn’t your typical June Cleaver type of household, that’s for sure.

Once the kids were gone, I could breath until the laundry pile called out to me. Next came the pile of dirty dishes, and get hubby out the door to work.

Then I got that dreaded C word... yes Cancer.

My whole world, and that of my children got turned upside down. Then came the whole Terry Fox story, and one of my sons decided I was going to die while he was away at school. So after many attempts to help him work through this, to no avail, we all just stayed home.

And guess what? As we have breakfast together every morning, and I get a million kisses, every sacrifice is worth it to see their happy little faces as I no longer yell for everything to get done.

Homeschooling was the best choice I ever made. I love our days together, and I have discovered that I really do like my children. Not just because they are mine, but because they are all unique, and so much fun to spend time with. I now know who they are. And as the papers and books over take the living room, the quietness and peacefulness that comes along with it is well appreciated.

So whoever invented HOMESCHOOLING, THANKS from all of us over here in our little corner for Another Wonderful Day!

-Joy Carr-

    A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR:
I have signs up all around my house saying “I am grateful.” But when things get hectic, I still forget. It takes a story like this, and someone like Joy to remind us all, Every Day Is A Gift, and thank God for just Another Wonderful Day!

    -Bonnie-

Hi!

Please tell as many friends and homeschool groups as you can about HomeschoolSoup.com. We are going to publish a book called Homemade Soup For Homeschoolers. You can read about it at HomeschoolSoup.com. It’s designed to be an inspirational book with stories about homeschoolers, from homeschoolers.

  • It’s for experienced homeschoolers to help remind us why we go through all this stuff.
  • It’s for new homeschoolers who are scared to death (remember those days :-)  to encourage them to keep on going.
  • It’s for people considering homeschooling to give them a glimpse into the life of homeschooling and to encourage them to take the plunge.

Each week about this time I will send out one of the stories in this Email. So be sure to keep an eye out for it in your Inbox! Here are some of the categories we will be covering:

  • Why We Homeschool: Thoughts From Mom and Dad.
  • Thank You Mom and Dad: Gratitude From Children
  • What The Children Have Taught Me
  • It Was All Worth Homeschooling Because...
  • I Was Homeschooled All My Life and Now I Am...
  • Encouragement
  • Love
  • Gratitude
  • Persistence/Perseverance
  • With God’s Help
  • Socialization

But I need your help! If you have any stories, please send them in. Also, please forward this email to homeschoolers and homeschool groups you know about. The more input we can get the better the whole project will be. Thank you so much for all the help and encouragement all of you have given in the past!

Thanks so much, and as always, enjoy your time with your kids. Time is fleeting and kids grow *FAST*

Sincerely,

Bonnie Han,
Publisher.
